WHISK + WANDER
A Weekly Home school Enrichment Collaboration between Roots Academy and MePowered Pastries
This small-group home school enrichment program brings together the outdoor, place-based learning philosophy of Roots Academy with the hands-on play, bake, learn model of MePowered Pastries.
School-Year Program: September 14 – May 26
Weekly Schedule: Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:30 AM–3:00 PM
Designed for learners ages 8½–12, the program is intentionally small, with eight students and two experienced guides, allowing for real exploration and meaningful mentorship.
One day each week is spent outdoors and out in the community with Roots, where students explore local landscapes, map the places they travel, observe ecosystems, and document their discoveries through field notes and storytelling.
On the other day, students gather in the MePowered Pastries studio, where baking becomes a hands-on way to explore science, culture, and the journey food takes from land to table.
Over time, experiences in the field and the kitchen begin to inform one another, creating a rhythm of exploration, reflection, and making.
All Outdoor Programming maintains a ratio of at least 6:1.
Place Based Enrichment
Place based homeschool enrichment programming at Roots aims to develop a sense of wonder and respect for the world around us and appreciation of our role in it by helping children make meaningful connections to their community through movement, play, art, and real world hands-on exploration.
Our Homeschool Enrichment Curriculum
Roots Place Based Programming is interdisciplinary in nature, meaning rather than teaching individual subject matter, concepts are taught and experiences are designed by pulling from a variety of modalities such as Literature, History, Geography, Geology, Mathematics, and so on. We believe that Human Beings do not exist in a vacuum, and that it is important to understand ourselves, and the world around us, within the context of the greater whole.
